God and Government (Sermon Audio: Sunday A.M.)

The hardest part about this passage (Romans 13:1-7) is that it is so easy to understand. We understand it, but that doesn’t mean we like it. The Bible doesn’t say we have to enjoy paying taxes, but we must pay. In the most basic sense Paul instructs the followers of Christ to be exemplary citizens of the state, but what if . . .? It is the “what if’s” of God and government that make this passage hard to swallow. In this sermon we address the passage “as is”, and then answer two major “what if’s?” Was Hitler God’s fault? Is resistance ever warranted?
